ORD Airport Lounges Guide 2026: Best Credit Cards for Lounge Access

Chicago O'Hare has one of the most unusual lounge layouts of any major U.S. hub. Most premium lounges are split between the core terminals (1-3) and Terminal 5, and getting between them requires either an airside transfer bus with limited hours or re-clearing security.

The short version: United and American dominate Terminals 1-3 with their respective club networks, while Terminal 5 has the newest and often most interesting lounges (Delta Sky Club, Air France, LOT). Your lounge strategy depends heavily on which terminal you're flying from and how much time you have.

ORD Terminal Layout: What You Need to Know

Understanding ORD's geography is essential for lounge planning.

Terminals 1, 2, and 3 are connected airside. You can walk between United (Terminal 1), Terminal 2, and American (Terminal 3) without leaving security. This makes lounge-hopping between these terminals straightforward.

Terminal 5 is separate. This is the critical gotcha at ORD. Terminal 5 (international flights plus select domestic carriers like Delta) is NOT connected airside to the other terminals.

The Terminal Transfer Bus is your airside lifeline to Terminal 5. It runs 11:30am to 9:30pm every 15 minutes. Stops are at Gate C18B (Terminal 1), G17 and K20 (Terminal 3), and M13 (Terminal 5). Outside these hours, you must exit security and take the landside ATS shuttle, then re-clear TSA.

Note: Due to construction, the Terminal 1 bus stop moved from B1 to Gate C18B. Plan your route accordingly.

Citi AAdvantage Executive

The Citi AAdvantage Executive is the go-to card for American Airlines flyers at ORD. It includes full Admirals Club membership, giving you access to all three Admirals Clubs in Terminal 3.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve includes Priority Pass Select, but at ORD, Priority Pass lounges are only in Terminal 5.

Amex Platinum

The Amex Platinum at ORD is different from most airports. There's no Centurion Lounge at ORD.

What you get at ORD:

• Priority Pass lounges (Terminal 5) - Same access as Sapphire Reserve

Getting to Terminal 5 for Better Lounges

If you're flying from Terminals 1-3 but want Terminal 5 lounges (Delta Sky Club, Air France), here's how to make it work:

Via the Transfer Bus (11:30am-9:30pm):

1. Go to the bus stop: C18B (Terminal 1), G17 or K20 (Terminal 3)
2. Ride takes about 15 minutes, buses run every 15 minutes
3. Get off at M13 (Terminal 5)
4. Allow 45+ minutes round trip

Outside Bus Hours: You must exit security, take the landside ATS shuttle, and re-clear TSA. This adds significant time and isn't recommended for tight connections.

When It's Worth It

• Long layover (3+ hours)
• The Terminal 5 lounge you want is genuinely better than your terminal's options
• You're outside the Air France mid-day restriction (12pm-5pm) if that's your target

When It's Not Worth It

• Connection under 2 hours
• You're flying American with Admirals Club access (stay in T3)
• It's outside transfer bus hours
• Air France restriction applies and Swissport is your only option

Quick Decision Guide

You're flying United from Terminal 1: Use United Clubs. If Polaris-eligible, the Polaris Lounge is the best at ORD. United Club B6 is the largest if you want maximum seating options.

You're flying American from Terminal 3: Stay in Terminal 3. Admirals Club H/K is the best (showers, kids room). Flagship Lounge if you qualify.
