Import your real spending from Monarch Money

The optimizer is only as good as its inputs. Instead of guessing your annual category spend, import a Monarch transactions CSV and run the math on what you actually spent.

No bank login, no card numbers.

How it works

The importer reads your last 12 months of transactions, drops everything that is not card spending (payments, transfers, income, cash withdrawals), and maps Monarch's budgeting categories to the optimizer's reward categories. Retail spending splits by merchant, so Amazon, Costco, and Walmart purchases land in their own categories, where card bonuses treat them differently from generic shopping. If the file covers less than a year, totals are scaled to a 12-month estimate and labeled as such.

You review every mapping before anything reaches the optimizer. Issuers award bonuses by merchant category code, which does not always match a budgeting category, so the review screen is where you catch the mismatches that matter for your wallet.

Frequently asked questions

Is my transaction data uploaded to CardSavvy?

No. The CSV is parsed entirely in your browser. Raw transactions, merchant names, and individual amounts never leave your device. Only the annual category totals you review and approve are passed to the optimizer, and they are saved to your account only if you are logged in.

How do I export my transactions from Monarch Money?

On desktop, go to Settings, then Data, then Download Transactions for a single CSV covering all accounts. For one account, open it from the Accounts page, select Edit, then Download transactions. Single-account downloads cap at 10,000 transactions; Monarch keeps exports available even after a subscription ends.

How accurate is the spending estimate?

Treat it as an estimate. Budgeting categories differ from the merchant category codes issuers use for rewards, so a review screen lets you reassign anything before it reaches the optimizer. Payments, transfers, income, and cash withdrawals are excluded automatically.

Which apps are supported?

Monarch Money transaction exports today. The importer detects the format from the file, so support for YNAB and other apps can be added. A generic CSV with Date, Merchant, Category, and Amount columns also works; column order does not matter.

Prefer to enter numbers by hand?

The optimizer works without any import: estimate your spending across five quick categories or the full detailed list.
